Union's across Queensland Celebrated Labour Day over the first weekend in May, to unite and celebrate all that is good with being in a collective. Marches and Family Fun Days were run at various locations spreading across the state from Toowoomba to Cairns. AFULE members whom attended their local festivities throughly enjoyed the day, as evident from photo's over the weekend.

Dear Members,

The Australian Electoral Commission will be calling for nominations for State Secretary of the AFULE from 20 August 2018. A copy of the election notice can be obtained here. The term of office is a 4 year term commencing on 1 January 2019.

Nominations open from 12.00pm on Monday 20 August 2018 and close at 12.00pm on Monday 17 September 2018. Nominations must be sent to the AEC at the address or emailed as stipulated on the election notice. Only financial members are eligible to nominate or participate in a ballot. Please read the election notice carefully so your nomination is received by the AEC in the allocated time period.

Nomination forms can be obtained from the AFULE State Office, by clicking here, or the via the AEC.

Members should ensure that your contacts details are up to date with the State Office so you receive a ballot you may do so easily here.

Candidates may also submit a statement to be included in the ballot material.

On a personal note after having the honor of serving as the State Secretary of the AFULE for the past 18 years I have decided that I won’t be re-nominating for the position.

Changing the Rules for a better life for working women

Changing the rules around work for women continues to be a major focus for Queensland unions.

Queensland Council of Unions General Secretary Ros McLennan says International Women’s Day today (8 March) is an opportunity to highlight how the work-life collision of juggling paid work and family responsibilities disproportionately impacts women.

Unions will intensify campaigning to tackle issues like the gender pay gap, reduced penalty rates, insecure work, inadequate retirement savings and domestic violence leave.
